Where I live now is on the second floor and is the bridge flat between two parts of a block. I have nobody above or below me and one side is the stairwell with the other a kitchen where I hear nobody cooking. Outside my flat block I have bus stops in each direction with two convenient services.
The best thing is that I have trees front, back and side of me. We have two trees on the actual site, one a cherry tree with wonderful blossom. There are trees beyond the bottom block on the site and evergreen trees which belong to student accommodation at the side of the site.
Best of all though are the trees opposite which I can see across the road. From my bed it looks as if it’s one tree but actually is three slender ones. I’m now approaching my third winter so have enjoyed two full seasons here and I can’t adequately convey the pleasure those trees give me.
At the moment they're bare, so I can see the patterns of the structure. At some point I think they’ll need lopping but still the grace of the branches enchants me. Like shapeshifting flames in a fire, I see all kinds of things. Like the eye of Horus beloved of Only Connect symbols. The waning colours of the leaves kept me entranced till a few weeks ago and I know how much I’ll enjoy the new leaves as spring approaches.
For now though I’ll feast my eyes on the bare bones while wondering if mine would look so elegant and shapely.
