But I do have a valid reason. Or more than one. I've been in a recycling phase plus a maintenance phase for the outside of the house before the bad weather arrives.
These jobs sneak up on you don't they and suddenly you have a list as long as your arm of things that must be done. In my case clearing out the steadily accumulating pile of unwanted things that we'd dumped in our large outbuilding. When I ran a car, this job was done twice a year with me visiting my local tip. Without a car and not wanting to bother other people, things had stacked up.
Now I'm proud to say we have clear space in there and a determination to clear as we go in future. As you get older, it becomes more of a hindrance to be faced with a large task than chipping away at it on a regular basis.
With everything cleared out, and getting rid of the many different categories took several weeks, I turned my attention to sprucing up fences, outside walls and last but not least our front door.
Inside the house I've been recycling as well. Pictures once liked but now looked on with disfavour. Articles I meant to read, 'when I had the time'. Books to be passed on, Garments no longer needed.
The local charity (thrift) shops have gained, even to the extent of increasing their 'rag bags'.
What effect has it had on me?
Curiously, a feeling of lightness internally. Externally a definite increase in space around me. And psychologically a feeling that I've now created space for new ideas, new things and new people to come in.
And this has started to happen. I've made moves outwards into different areas of interest and people have responded.
I have no idea where this will lead me but I'm looking forward to finding out.
